Up and Running!

I’ve kept a blog for about a year now and, while most of my time outside of the ol’ day job is taken up with bookbinding, printing and paper-related obsessions, I don’t always think of sharing news and information about those obsessions with my (albeit tiny) general reading audience. I’m fascinated by those things, but I know that not everyone is.

I’m also developing my binding and printing into as much of a business as I can, and am in the very beginning of that process, taking baby steps toward doing as much more of it as I can handle. I thought it would be fun to create a venue for sharing details and thoughts about the process of building this obsession of mine into a business. I’ve been in business for myself before and absolutely loved it, although the work I did in the past provided arts management services, which is a different ball of wax altogether from creating individual finished, handmade products. Having managed artists for years in a variety of capacities, I never thought I’d be good enough at anything to be on the other side of the table with them. After a good deal of perseverance and hard work in any and all free time I’ve had over the last year or so, I’m very happy with the overall quality and design of the books I’m making and the cards and other pieces that I’m starting to do using letterpress printing.

I’m as interested as anyone to see where I can go with my binding and printing and I’m excited to be spending so much of my time and energy on an endeavor I love so much. It’s a huge encouragement, and incredibly motivating to me to know that there are lots of other folks all over the world who have managed to turn their artistic skills into a viable source of income and a means of supporting themselves. I just hope to be able to keep doing this work I love and it’s always good to know that others have made it work, too.

Off we go!
