It’s true. I have to face it. I’ve become a machine! These days, if any paper-related project flies across my radar, however briefly, I latch onto it and run as fast as I can! I’ve been cranking out new albums, journals and ideas as fast as I can make notes about them on the train during my morning and evening commutes. And while our large table is loaded with finished books and my Etsy page is brimming with new work, there are a lot of other things on the not-so-distant horizon and I figured it was time to share some of the new work and fill you in on some exciting upcoming projects!
Besides a wonderful weekend with 2 of our very best friends - who we don’t get to see nearly enough of! - I’ve been sewing away and creating some new albums and journals that I really love. A bit of a break over the holidays meant being able to stock up on some much needed paper and binding supplies and also checking out new resources not usually available in person to those of us with day jobs! After a brief tour through Talas, I managed to find some new small hand tools, and stocked up on new linen threads and rich papers from Hollander’s, in order to complete a custom album project.
This is the first double color thread coptic stitch book I’ve ever done, and I’m thrilled with how it turned out. It’s a technique I’ve known and read about for a long time, but had never had the request to try…and now I’m sure it will show up all over, as I loved doing it and love the effect!
There has been a brisk traffic for custom albums, including two others I just wrapped up. The first is a ballet album - more on Rebekah’s blog - and the second is a commission I did for an Etsy customer.
I’ve also been busily making an assortment of 7″ x 10″ photo albums, plus stacks of 5″ x 7″ journals. I’ve gotten several of them up on Etsy and there are more to come!
As if all that wasn’t enough, this weekend I’m teaching a short Japanese stab-binding workshop at Memories Out of the Box here in Brooklyn, which carries my journals and albums, and next weekend I’m heading back to The Arm in Williamsburg to print up a few custom orders, including invitations and thank you cards.
I’ll try to keep the images coming and would love to hear what you think of the work! As predicted, it’s all proving to be a wildly satisfying endeavor and I can promise that there is plenty more to come!
