There’s a fascinating force at play in work you love to do: you can do it for hours on end and have no idea how much time has passed and, when you do take a break to breathe and look up at the clock, you wish there was more of the day left to keep chipping away and get more ideas out of your head and onto the page.
So here we are, at 10:48 on Sunday evening, with a pile to show for the weekend (no regrets there!), and still a million things on my mind that I’m anxious to get to. I’ve been incredibly productive lately and am motivated by the way my books are coming together, and also the way my letterpress projects are turning out, but I still wish every weekend had about 48 more hours in it. I just wish I could do more than (what feels like) just getting started on projects, before I have to launch back into workweek routine. So it goes.
This weekend was no exception to the usual rule, though: there is a mountain of newly finished albums and journals on my work table. I just completed a set of custom albums that I’m planning to use as an example for the packages of wedding albums I’m just beginning to put together.
I’ll be working away on a few more journals and several new albums this week and am looking forward to my parents’ visit this coming weekend. So far, the rough itinerary includes amazing food, more art than any family should really try to see in 72 hours, the John Tavener concert on Friday night, and racing to show off our favorite places in Brooklyn. All things considered, we should be pretty well spoken for while they are here, to the extent that - and you may want to sit down for this - I may take a day or two off from intense bookbinding. I have a few custom orders for cards and albums on the horizon, though, so I’m sure that won’t last long!

“more art than any family should really try to see” — would that fit on the family crest?
