When I was growing up, our family would drive from Iowa to New Jersey at Christmastime to visit my grandparents. I've written about Christmas at their house before; it was always magical, without fail. My grandmother embodied the Christmas spirit right down to the tips of her toes. This card is a drawing of my memory of those trips, coursing along I-80 piled in the back of our 1988 Dodge Colt station wagon, the way-back packed with presents. When we reached the Delaware Water Gap we'd cheer; almost there!
For this card, I've drawn an imagined old black and white picture showing our station wagon, in bright cranberry ink, making our way along a tree-lined and snow-lined I-80 at Christmastime. Along the bottom, I've hand lettered "over the river and through the woods" in simple lowercase cursive.
